Reading at home should be taking place very regularly. Little and often is best - 10 minutes reading to an adult on a daily basis will really help improve confidence, fluency and comprehension. It will also allow children to explore a wide variety of genres, which is key at this stage of development.
Reading 4 times a week to an adult should be as a minimum. Don't forget to get these reads signed off in reading records, so they can count towards your reading certificates.
Your child will be heard read by an adult in school on a one-to-one basis once every week as a minimum. They will also explore texts in small groups and as a whole class throughout their week in school, with many opportunities to read aloud to the class as well as independently for pleasure.
