Purleigh Community Primary School is situated in the village of Purleigh, south of the Blackwater Estuary in Essex. The towns of Maldon and South Woodham Ferrers are four miles away and there are several smaller villages that are situated around the school. It is these villages that form the school's priority admission area.
The classes are divided into seven individual year groups and class numbers range from twenty nine to thirty four. Presently the school has a 215 pupils on its roll, highlighting the school's increasing popularity.
In November 2012 we were inspected by Ofsted and were graded as 'outstanding' across the board. We were judged as outstanding for Achievementof pupils, Quality of Teaching, Behaviour and Safety of pupils, Quality of Leadership and Management as well as Overall Effectiveness.
Pupils attain results at Key Stage Two traditionally well above national data in English and maths at both level 4 and level 5. The school achieved 97% 2 levels of progress in 2015 for maths and reading and 100% 2 levels of progress in writing. We also attained 97% level 4+ in maths, 100% level 4+ in reading and 97% level 4+ in writing. This demonstrates that the school adds fantastic value to the children's learning. In 2016 we achieved 58% of pupils reaching the required standard in reading, writing and maths combined compared to the national figure of 53%
